On Sunday 11th September, three members of Wirral Judo Club won medals in the Heart of England Judo Championships, the second in a small group of National Identification events.

 

Richard Jarvis, Vicky McKay and Eve McQuade all won bronze medals in their individual age and weight categories, gaining 400 points each on the World Class Start Programme, National Ranking List, which is used to select players for the National Squad.

 

The tournament, held at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, is one of the biggest events on the National Judo Calendar. As well as including players from all over Great Britain the event also attracted clubs from as far away as France, South Africa and Russia.

 

Other players from Wirral Judo club who also competed on the day, and gained at least 50 points were: Charlotte Wright, Luke Fazakerley, Sam Campbell, Ronnie Morgan, Mathew Fazakerley and Heather Taylor.
