On Sunday 10th September, three members of Wirral Judo Club won medals in the Heart of England Judo Championships, the first of two National Identification events.

 

Laura Barlow, Eve McQuade and Vikki McKay, who won five consecutive fights, all won bronze medals in their individual age and weight categories, gaining 400 points each on the World Class Start Programme, which is used to select players for the National Squad.

 

The competition, held at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, is one of the biggest events on the National Judo Calendar. As well as including players from all over Great Britain the event also attracted clubs from as far away as France, South Africa.

 

Other players from Wirral Judo club who also competed on the day were: Jack McKye, Jack Stubbs, Alex Clements, Peter Oldrid, Phillip Taylor, Lisle Taylor, Sarah Glover, Charlotte Wright, Luke Fazakerley, Shaun Egan, Anthony Daley, Jamie Mercer, Jamie Ollerhead, Duncan Swiffen, Hannah Davies, Jade Atkinson, Sam Campbell, Mathew Fazakerley and Callum Davies.
